YSL Northern Lights. Christmas Collection of Sparkling Frost

Here is the first of my high end Christmas makeup collection reviews. I bought two from the YSL campaign. These two are from five, which i consider the stars of the show. I think YSL have pulled it out the bag this year. For many years i would check out their Christmas collections and think ok but nothing special. I have never bought any products from YSL, not even the famous Touche eclat. Why? Never thought they did anything that jumped out at me before.

This year however; i believe they are finally bringing Christmas to the table with sparkle and some thinking outside the box. Even the title of the collection has been well thought out.  Use arrows to move the slider along and press on each picture for full details. Opinions on this collection are my own and not influenced by anyone else. Prices correct October 2012.

The rest of the collection is below. I did try all these products at the counter but thought that five products from the whole collection made a positive impact on me and would be worth purchasing. These are the two i bought, the other golden lip gloss, polar pink, the gold gel eyeliner and the shocking mascara in cassis.

Said to be inspired by the phenonemon, The Northern Lights he witnessed many times as a boy , Lloyd Simmonds Creative Director for YSL, has incorporated plum, midnight blues and mother of pearl into this collection. Colours that naturally occur in the NL's. The collection contains mostly limited edition cosmetics, exceptions being the shocking mascara in cassis no 7 and the Pure chromatics Boreal  quad eyeshadow palette no 12.

There are two lip glosses (£22.00)/ 6ml. One Glacial blue no 55 (see review above) and Polar Pink no 56. Mother of pearl clear gel with pink and gold sparkles. Both contain Nigelle and Cameline oils for nourishing the lips and 0.2% 24 carat gold.

Two quad eyeshadows in a sequined pouch (£39.00) /5gm. No 12 Blues/plum and one of grey shades. I thought both the colours in these palettes were just a touch too dark for me. Nice texture on them though.
One gel eyeliner gold no7 (£22.00)/3gm. Lovely colour and i like the fact that it is a gel. Can be used all over the eye as well.

Two Shocking mascaras.(£23.00)/ 7.5ml. One in Cassis no7, the other in Scintillating grey no20. I didn't like the grey one. I do think it would suit grey, green or hazel eyes though, but i wasn't over awed by it. The cassis is a fabulous colour and a permanent line, hence why i have not bought it yet. Would be an ideal colour for blue eyes.

Top Coat in Premier Neige no 33 (£18.00)/10ml. Read my review above.

One Highlighter powder, Polar Night (39.50). I do like this very finely milled powder. Pale pink with golden shimmer (very much like last years one). It is loosely pressed though and came away just a bit too easily from the palette, which means it will probably diminish rather quickly. I have many highlighters, so i gave this one a miss.

Two blush radiance. (£31.00)/ 4gm. No 7 a peach/coral shade and no 8 pink. Quite generic blushers. When i swatched them, they did give a good pay off of colour but nothing different and i own many more multi-dimensional blushers.

Two Rouge Volupte Lipsticks. (£23.50) No12 Plum Rose and No 9 Beige Rose.Encourages full lips with a satin shine finish. 4gm of product is a very generous size also. I have so many lipsticks but i do love the packaging. How many people would envy you if you pulled this out of your handbag?

Overall, a great idea  with great products for stocking fillers and for the holiday period. I am fast becoming a fan of YSL and this collection has been the best from them yet, in my opinion.
